My life made better today by two incredible friends:

First, Addie sends me this Green Porno short in response to my wildly paranoid FB post about bedbugs (they’re everywhere!  They’re migrating west!!  What’s that weird, itchy bite on my big toe??!):

Then Jenna sends me this Go Fug Yourself post, where blogger Jessica describes model Isabel Lucas’s style as “Teen-Girl-in-a-Lois-Duncan-Book,” which — holy !#@$!, brilliant — my new fall look.  I won’t just limit myself to Lois Duncan covers though — I’ll hit up Judy Blume, Norma Klein, V.C. Andrews — it’ll be loopy waves, bobby socks & loafers, all November-long…

I <3 Fiona (& Zach Galifianakis) Thursdays:

A couple of years ago while watching all four seasons of Battlestar Galactica on DVD, I developed an insane, psycho obsession with the enigmatic BG character Kara “Starbuck” Thrace (played brilliantly by Katee Sackhoff). She was a fighter pilot with a death wish!  Tough, yet so, so vulnerable!  Self-hating, but adored by many, many men!  Bitchy, slutty, badly behaved — an alcoholic — and still, so lovable!  How could I compare? How could I go on living a semi-sane, responsible, sober existence when a whole mess of destructive behavior (on a spaceship!) beckoned?!

Here’s a fave scene from BG.  Starbuck beating the #$@%! out of her beloved, Lee “Apollo” Adama:

Sweet romance!  This episode nearly killed me.  Soon after, I started searching for something to undo all my craziness.  No more loony jealousy!  I imdb-ed and googled the crap out of Katee Sackhoff, and thankfully, at long last, found this:

Amazing.  So incredible.  I actually watched this whole thing on Lifetime one sunny Sunday afternoon!  And you know what?  After months (months!) of feeling absurdly envious of a totally made-up TV character (!),  I was finally, finally, free.

A few years ago, my very sweet friend Capucine sent me a mix CD with a ton of girly french music: Keren AnnOlivia RuizYael Naim, Carla Bruni.  I adored all of it!  I couldn’t understand a word of it!  It got me all ridiculous and jealous of french girls who sing pretty, precious songs!

Then, two nights ago, I caught the tail end of a documentary about Carla Bruni on The Sundance Channel.   Italian tire heiress!  90s supermodel!  International singing sensation!  And now:  France’s first lady!

Why am I not French?!  Or an international singing sensation?!  How can I sort out my massive rocker envy issues??

A new book!  Slated for spring 2012.  It’s all about a girl who’s jealous of another girl because she’s in a band!  No one’s french or anything.  Here’s the deal announcement with a proper synopsis:

NOTHING LIKE YOU and HER AND ME AND YOU author Lauren Strasnick’s DAKOTA WEBB IS MISSING, about high school rock goddess Dakota Webb whose mysterious disappearance is deemed a suicide, but her ex-BFF Adrienne Knox doesn’t buy it, and with only one clue in hand, Adrienne attempts to uncover what really happened to Dakota, again to Anica Rissi at Simon Pulse, for publication in 2012, by Jennifer Rofe at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency (world).

Thank you Jen Rofe & Anica Rissi for continuing to make all my dreams comes true!

& here, for you!  A little Carla Bruni:

As many of you may have gleaned from my previous posts (& by ‘many ‘ I mean three.  All three of you reading this blog.), I spend a ton of time thinking deep thoughts like, “I need that black denim jumpsuit,” and “What would happen if I slept with my hair in a wet bun?  Would I wake up with soft, silky waves (the answer, by the way, is no.)?”  So you can imagine my delight, when, while browsing YouTube for renaissance hairdo tutorials (no kidding), I discovered this incredible video:

Italian Renaissance hair taping!  Taught by an adorable Dutch girl who has an entire YouTube channel (Loepsie) devoted to all things hair and beauty!  I’ve always been big on braids, but since uncovering this internet gem, I’ve learned the difference between french braids, dutch lace braids, and rope braids!

Happy Thursday!

Peace out.

I went through a massive Gunne Sax dress phase (for those not in the know, Gunne Sax = 70s prairie revival. Lace, high collars, floor length skirts, puffed sleeves) which I attribute, in part, to this movie:

Picnic at Hanging Rock

Mysterious happenings!  Hysterical girls!  White gauzy gorgeousness!

Slow, super weird,  ultra dreamy, and one of two movies my cat can’t get enough of (the other? Walkabout. Also Australian.  And based on a book.  And made in the 70s.  Coincidence?!).

Favorite ways to whittle away hours of good writing time:

Lookbook: where a bajillion fashion obsessed teens and twenty-somethings post outfit pics from their personal blogs.  This site is like fashion crack.  I have wasted hours of my life scrolling through photos of girls in six inch platform clogs and boys in white linen suits and saddle shoes.

The Sartorialist: where i found this glorious photo:

Who is this wickedly stylish man and why don’t more dudes dress like him??

Liebemarlene Vintage: where blogger Rhiannon Leifheit keeps a daily diary of all her pretty, perfect outfits. How i long to roll out of bed each morning and slip into adorable vintage separates and wooden heels!  Look! She’s a doll:

And too, was she named for the Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon?  Who doesn’t want to be named after a sexy 70s pop song?

& lastly, the Swedish Hasbeens website: where i’ve spent months lusting after primary colored clogs.  An obsession i can’t quite justify.  Or shake.  I own one precious pair.  These are them:

Next week on the blog:  a post about fish tail braids and renaissance hairdos??  Possibly!  Thrilling, right?  Just you wait.
